Last summer, my friend Maureen told us about a hike her friend had done in Spain, called the Cami de Ronda. where we interested? Of course we are! So that Sunday afternoon I start doing some research, create a trip in Triphub and add some hikes and hotels to the trip board. We talk about it more during some of our weekly hikes. In November we decide on dates, and I start mapping out the routes and hotels along the way. A year after our first conversation, we are about to embark on hiking de Cami Ronda: Cadaques to El Port de La Selva. Day 6, August 27, 2025. 7 miles, 1,200 feet elevation.
Cap de Creus
After a great breakfast in Hotel La Residencia, we leave the town of Cadaques behind. Today is our last day. The trail starts just outside town and is an immediate climb up to mountain of Cap de Creus. We stop a couple of times to look back on the picturesque, white-housed town.
Soon, the fog starts to roll in and the town disappears completely. Once we reach the top, the fog disappears. We cross the Cap Creus peninsula to the next bay over. On our way down to El Port de La Selva, it starts to rain. It is not a heavy rain, more a drizzle, so we power on.
We reach the outskirts of El Port de La Selva and continue on the road to town. This is it. 6 days, almost 60 miles. We feel a bit sad that this hiking trip has come to an end. We can retire our hiking boots for a next adventure.
After dropping our bags in the hotel, we walk through town, looking for a place to have lunch and celebrate our 6-day hiking adventure. We find a lovely restaurant overlooking the harbor: Ca La Paquita. The ” arroz con bogavante”, a paella like rice with lobster. It goes well with the bottle of cold rose we ordered.
The next morning, we take a bus from El Port de La Selva to Figueres and from Figueres the train back to Barcelona.
Tips
The public transportation system in Spain is excellent and cheap. Moventis and other local buses have regular schedules between towns. There are good train connections with the Renfe train. Booking online is a bit of a hassle. You need passport and mobile phone for each traveler. If you don’t want to carry all your luggage, Taxi en Roses has a great luggage service. You can book all segments online, where they verify your hotel is on their list.
