3 Delicious Days Nantucket

The little 8-person plane from Cape Air flies me from Boston to Nantucket. It is a short 45-minute flight. Before I know it, I am in a taxi on my way to our hotel. Excited I point out The Club Car, The Juice Bar, Steamboat Pizza, and moments later Pearl.

The driver asks me if I visit often and I tell him “it is my first time actually.” He looks confused. He doesn’t know that I only know Nantucket from years of reading Elin Hilderbrand’s books.

And so I step into the world of “the Blue Bistro”, a weekend exploring this wonderful, culinary beach town, 3 delicious days in Nantucket. (more…)

A Culinary Adventure Exploring SoCal

When I got an offer from Marriott Vacation club for a three night stay in their Newport Coast Villas, we turned it into a culinary adventure, exploring SoCal. I had been to Newport once on a business trip and had always wanted to go back. We started our culinary adventure with a lunch in Santa Barbara on our way down. We ended it in style, with brunch in Long Beach on our way back. In between we sampled lunch and dinners in Newport and Catalina Island. We ended up having a couple of delicious days.

Little Treasures Of The Bay Area Worth Trying

One of the silver linings of Corona is that hiking became the highlight of our weekend. Due to the frequency of our hikes, I started looking for new trails. As a result, we have discovered so many great trails all over the Bay Area since 2020.

One area that became one of our favorites is Pleasanton Ridge Regional Park in Sunol. This is one of the little treasures of the Bay Area we come back to regularly and is worth trying.

Not just because the hikes and the views are great, but because of the brunch at the quaint Casa Bella, downtown Sunol, afterward. Read more about how we roll on a COVID Sunday.

Caymans: Swimming With Stingrays And Turtles

When we looked for a warm place to ring in the New Year, we discovered the beautiful unspoiled east and north side of Grand Cayman island.

The picture I had of the Caymans, was one of money and sophistication, a playground for the rich with a lot of high-end stores, fancy restaurants, and a ton of cruise ships.

Georgetown and 7-mile beach have all of that. However, we found the other side of Grand Cayman: the east and the northside.

Unspoiled beaches, nice little restaurants, and above all great opportunities for swimming with stingrays and turtles. We also had a magical night kayaking in bioluminescent waters.

Food explorations in the heart of Music City

Nashville is known as the music capital of the world. Many famous artists started their careers here. A lot of people link Nashville with country music, but Nashville is not just country. In addition to country, it is rock ‘n roll, bluegrass, jazz, blues, and a little bit of soul. So many famous artists that started their careers in Nashville have their names in the Country Music Hall of fame. Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, the Everly Brothers, and Taylor Swift, to name a few. Broadway Street, the heart of downtown Nashville, is a long street with multi-story bars. You can listen to live music all day long. However, the surprise this weekend was Nashville’s hidden gems. The Beating Heart of Havana: Food, Art and Music

Both for Havana’s beauty and decay, it’s very hard to restrain yourself from staring everywhere you go”

– Brin Jonathan Butler

I visited Cuba a lifetime ago. It was in the days of Fidel’s reign and rules were strict and supplies were limited. We stayed in Holguin area, on the opposite side of the island from Havana. Although I was in Cuba and we had a great time, I never felt I experienced the real Cuba. The visit to the beautiful city of Trinidad, offered me a glimpse of that Cuba. In addition, after reading a couple of books about Havana, I knew I had to go back. I wanted to walk the streets of old Havana. See the sunset on the Malecon, drink in the history, the culture and the people. I wanted to feel that rhythm and beat: the beating heart of Havana: food, art and music.

One day over a dinner, our friend Francis told us about a trip to Bordeaux organized by his friend Bill, who owns a vineyard in Vancouver. Without really knowing what to expect, we signed up, as we don’t want to miss exploring the Big 5 of Bordeaux in the heart of the French wine country. So here we are on a Sunday afternoon in late June 2015. Our wine adventure is about to begin.
